We live on the edge of food scarcity and are slowly agitating our water and land creating a volatile environment to growing crops. What is the future of agricultural business? With the population expected to grow to 9 billion in 2050, how will we be able to feed everyone in a healthy manner?
Agriculture is dependent on earth’s resources, such as soil and water. Threats to our biosphere have been identified within the concepts of ‘planetary boundaries’ in a landmark study, which define values that, when crossed, hold the potential for disastrous consequences. Some planetary boundaries are well-known, such as climate change and biodiversity loss. Others are not so readily recognized.
